ONEONTA - Michael F. Naples died unexpectedly Monday morning at the age of 58.
He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Michael was a lifetime resident of Oneonta. He worked for the City of Oneonta for three decades in various departments of public works. He was also recently elected city council member.
Michael was an avid hunter and best walleye fisherman around. He was very active in the Catholic Church and proud to see his son become a priest. He spent many years volunteering his time at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club and the Boy Scouts of America. He was a friend to many and always eager to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Peter Naples and daughter-in-law, Tanya Naples.
He leaves behind his mother, Philomena (Colone) Naples; wife of 35 years, Jean Naples; father-in-law, Edwin VanHensbergen; siblings, Maryann Barbaro (Aldo), Peter Naples, and Angela Motler (Mark); his children, Dale, Brian, Timothy, David (Bailey), and
Anthony. He also had four grandchildren, Owen, Gianna, Isaac and Colburn Naples and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, January 12th at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta. A recitation of the Rosary will be at 6 p.m.
His son Father Timothy Naples will offer the Mass of Christian Burial at 11a.m. on Friday, January 13th at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 39 Walnut St., Oneonta.
Interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Emmons.
