Michelle Goodhue, 43, of Oneonta, passed away on October 1, 2013 following a
courageous battle with cancer.

Michelle was born on June 29, 1970 in Puerto Rico to Hilda Pilar Colon and Pablo Rodriguez. She was raised in the Bronx and graduated from Harry S. Truman High School. Michelle earned her MS in Education, School Counseling, from SUNY Oneonta.

Michelle dedicated her professional career helping others understand the importance of education and encouraging young students to see the full value of their potential. She believed that we are never limited by our past, and with hard work, we are able to achieve our dreams. In keeping with that belief, she valued her time working as a substitute teacher in the Oneonta elementary school system, with a particular interest working with and advocating for children with special needs and challenging backgrounds.

A devoted wife and mother, Michelle was a dance mom and boisterous soccer and gymnastics fan. She loved the annual Fokine Ballet production of The Nutcracker, soccer goals and back handsprings. She and her husband Bill, owned the Dairy Queen where she served ice cream with a smile. Michelle and Bill enjoyed campfires, traveling with the family in their motor coach, and spending time at the beach.

Michelle was known to her friends and family as an avid runner, a Girls on the Run mentor, a straight shooter, loyal friend and dog lover. She could cook a mean adobo chicken, which she shared at countless gatherings of friends and family. She lived life and laughed often and will be missed sorely.

She is survived by her best friend and husband of 14 years, Bill Goodhue, and their three beautiful children, Siarra, Angelica and Mateo.

Calling hours will be 3 to 6 p.m., Sunday, October 6, 2013 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

A Funeral Mass will be 1 p.m., Monday, October 7th at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 39 Walnut St., Oneonta, with Rev. Scott VanDerveer Parochial Vicar, as celebrant.

Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Greater Plains PTO, Attn: Sharon Herrmann, 60 West End Avenue, Oneonta, NY 13820. The funds will be used to purchase books at the book fair every year for students who are not financially able to afford them and for an award at the 5th grade graduation to the student who best demonstrates commitment to the well being of their school and community.
