MILFORD – Millard D. (Zip) Montgomery, 84, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, July 6, 2008. He died at home after an extended illness.
He was born April 5, 1924 in Milford, the son of Orrin Dewitt and Pearl (Silliman) Montgomery.
Zip was a United States Army veteran. He served in the China Burma area during World War II.
Zip was a member of the Milford American Legion Post 1566.
He was a mason, working for the Brick Layer Union in Oneonta.
Zip was an avid bowler and enjoyed teaching people, especially children, how to bowl.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Elinor Jane (Townsend) Montgomery; sons, Donald and Noreen Montgomery, Paul Montgomery and David Montgomery; several grandchildren; step-children, Janet Ploutz, Nancy Phinney and Richard Ploutz; and many nieces and nephews.
Zip is predeceased by a daughter, Elaine; brothers, Willard, Vernard (Jack) and Alden; sisters, Waneta, Mildred, Beulah, Iva and Kathleen.
Calling hours will be held 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home in Oneonta.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Stephen Fournier, pastor at the Milford Center Community Gospel Church, officiating.
Interment with military honors will be at the Milford Center Cemetery.
