Oneonta - Nancy C. Garrison, 77, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2022 at her home after a long illness.
She was born June 9, 1945 in Sidney, the daughter of Harold and Pauline (Sowles) McCumber.
Nancy was in the last class to graduate from Unadilla Central School before the merger. She also graduated from SUNY Cobleskill.
Nancy worked in the human resources field at Catholic Charities and several churches. She enjoyed volunteering at several local schools. She was the Administrative Assistant for Senator Patrick Moynihan's office, SUNY Oneonta, and Elm Park United Methodist Church.
She was a member of the Audubon Society, Habitat for Humanity, Greater Oneonta Historical Society. She was on the board of trustees for the Swart Wilcox Foundation and also on several church committees. She enjoyed being a News Stringer at WZOZ where she interviewed and met many interesting people in and around Oneonta. Nancy also was a volunteer for Hospice.
She is survived by her children, Kelly and Richard Tavarone of Oneonta and Kary and James Trocchia of Garden City; grandchildren, Tucker and Connor Tavarone and Emily and Jimmy Trocchia; her siblings Norman McCumber, Anne Lyman and Sally Gage (Lewis); nephews, Terry McCumber, Kevin McCumber (Carol), Nicholas Lyman (Mark Seabury); and a great nephew, Kyle McCumber.
She was predeceased by her brother, Kenneth McCumber as well as her parents.
A funeral service will be held 11 AM Thursday, July 28 at the Elm Park United Methodist Church, 401 Chestnut St., Oneonta with the pastor John Buddle officiating.
A private committal service will be held in Provincetown, a place that was dear to Nancy's heart.
Donations may be made to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Association or to Elm Park United Methodist Church.
