Oneonta - Norman B. Sweet of Normal Avenue in Oneonta died Friday, November 2, 2007 after a prolonged illness.
Born December 18, 1920 in St. Johnsville, NY, he married Angelyn Mary Bob of Troy, NY June 1950.
He is survived by his son, Stephen and daughter-in-law, Annie Sweet of Berkshire, England and his nephew, Mark Sweet of Greene, NY.
Before the age of 30, Mr. Sweet had a variety of occupations which included time study engineering work for The Fuller Brush Company, Cluett Peabody & Company and Montgomery Ward. He also did a stint with Ringling Bros. Circus before its merger with Barnum & Bailey and toured for a year as a magician & juggler with Cole Bros. Shows. He subsequently went on to graduate with a degree in Pure Mathematics from Albany State University and later took a Masters Degree at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Mr. Sweet taught Mathematics for 41 years at SUCO as well as authoring a number of math books including "Math for Poets".
Besides his family he loved playing chess, practicing his violin, listening to music, attending recitals and supporting the classic arts. He dedicated his life to teaching and training teachers to teach math.
There will be no calling hours or funeral.
Any remembrance should be made in the form of a donation to the Angelyn Sweet Memorial Fund at Catskill Symphony Orchestra or to a charity of one's choice.
