UTICA – Oliver VanZandt Hall, 83, passed away Friday, December 19, 2008
He was born June 10, 1925 in Maryland, the son of Oliver John and Marjorie (VanZandt) Hall.
Oliver married Phila Putnam on October 28, 1950.
He was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II in the Regimental Combat Team #158, obtaining the rank of Sergeant and receiving the Purple Heart.
He attended Syracuse University.
Mr. Hall was an Independent Insurance Broker and owned the O.J. Hall and Sons in Syracuse.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Syracuse and Tigress Shriners; also was an Eagle Scout, Troop 25 & 27 in Syracuse.
He and his wife, wintered in Punta Gorda, Florida
He is survived by his wife, Phila Hall of Utica; sons, Stephen (Joan) Hall of Marina Del Ray, CA, Douglas (Leslie) Hall of Jeffersonville, VT, and David (Kathleen) Hall of Clarksville, TN; seven grandchildren and a great-grand son; a sister, Elaine Eustice of Syracuse and several nieces and nephews.
A Masonic graveside memorial service with military honors will take place at the Maryland Cemetery at a later date.
