Obituary

DECATUR – Paul Fancher, 87, of Decatur, NY, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at Bassett Medical Center after a lengthy battle with COPD.

Paul was born June 20, 1933 in Decatur to Hayward and Ethel (Henness) Fancher.

A loving and devoted family man, Paul was an extremely hard worker who was thought well of by many who met him.  He spent his entire life in Decatur, except for his time spent in the service.

After attending and graduating from Worcester Central School, Paul worked on the family farm for a few years before joining the United States Army in 1953 and serving in Korea.  He was honorably discharged in 1956 achieving the rank of Sergeant.

Soon after his discharged, he began working at Worcester Creamery in Worcester, NY.

On November 2, 1956, Paul married Jane Pease and they enjoyed a 56 year marriage until Jane passed away in 2012.

Throughout the 1960's, while still working at the creamery, Paul and Jane helped out on the family farm where they had also taken up residence.  In the late '60's Paul and Jane began their own modest herd of ten cows.  When Paul's parents retired, they took over their own herd and worked, often side by side, until retiring in 2000.

Paul worked at Worcester Creamery until 1981 and later worked at Glensfoot Farms in Cherry Valley, NY.
