Peter J.
Ingraham
July 11, 1950 – May 18, 2020
Oneonta - Peter J. Ingraham, 69, passed away May 18, 2020 at the Delhi Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Delhi, New York after living there for two years following a stroke.
Prior to his time in Delhi he enjoyed a forty-year vocation as a veterinarian, most recently at Oneonta's Community Veterinary Center.
Anyone who knew 'Doc' Ingraham heard him grumble occasionally and colorfully about his career choice, but they also know there wasn't anything else he would have rather done. He had an abounding love for all of his four-legged patients.
To his children he was just dad, and to their friends growing up he was Big Pete. His Sunday morning post-sleepover breakfasts were legendary, as was his fluency and inventiveness with the most profane registers of the English language. As a father he was generous, wise, and phenomenally funny.
He was born July 11, 1950 in Ransomville, NY, the only son of Maxon Arthur and Frances (Sikoski) Ingraham. He received both his undergraduate degree ('72) and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine ('76) from Cornell University, a campus that remained hallowed ground to him throughout his life.
While not at work he enjoyed photography, writing, and spending time with his many beloved pets. He is survived by his sons Chris (Briana Wilson) and Dylan (Andrea Nero), and his three grandsons, (twins Charlie and Jack, and William).
A memorial service will be open to the public on Saturday, August 7, 2021 from 2:00PM – 4:00PM at Fortin Park, 101 Youngs Rd., Oneonta. Dr. Pete would have loved to see your furry friends in attendance, so please feel free to bring your leashed pups or any photos of animals Big Pete helped, as we honor the man who cared so much for the community's four legged friends for forty years. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his memory to the Delaware Valley Humane Society ( dvhsny.org ), the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society (HeartOfTheCatskills.org) or the Susquehanna SPCA ( sqspca.org ).
