CHARLOTTEVILLE – Peter Stillman, 77, passed away Saturday February 5, 2011 at the Northeastern Center in Lake Katrine, NY.
He was born in Norwalk, Connecticut, the son of George and Marguerite Stillman. After attending local schools, he earned a Bachelor's degree at Central Connecticut College and a Master's degree from Middlebury College.
Stillman was an educator, publisher, and writer. He last taught in public schools at Charlotte Valley Central School prior to entering book publishing, becoming editor-in- chief of Boynton/Cook Publishers. He is the author of a dozen books and widely published poet. Much of his poetry has just been published in the book Proof of Passage. Additionally, Stillman directed seminars and graduate courses on many campuses across the country, was keynote speaker at over 100 state and national English conferences, and was writer-in-residence at two universities. He has made his home in Charlotteville environs since 1971.
Peter Stillman is survived by his wife, Marcia Jean Stillman; his brother, David; his four children, Jonathan, Daniel, Thomas Stillman, and Laura Carraro; as well as by four grandchildren.
A memorial gathering will be held 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at the Charlotteville Fire House, 634 Charlotte Valley Road, Charlotteville.
