Oneonta – Peter J. Tavarone, 76, passed away peacefully at his home on June 13, 2024.

He was born September 19, 1947 in Suffern, the son of Peter and Waiva (Townsend) Tavarone.

Pete was a nature lover and an adventurist who extensively traveled the Midwest.  He was an enthusiastic storyteller and enjoyed sharing his wild and fascinating tales.  He took comfort in his writing; he certainly could have been a published author.  Pete was a talented leather tailor and craftsman, making mountain man clothing and gear; and selling them at the many rendezvous he attended.

He loved hunting and flying RC model helicopters and planes.  He was a member of the Maryland RC Flyers Club.

While living in Florida he was a security guard at a large cat zoo and also a hotel.  Pete drove a school bus for the Oneonta School District for 33 years, a job he loved and the kids loved him.

He is survived by his sons, Richard (Kelly) Tavarone and Pete Tavarone (Lauren Sloane); grandchildren, Tucker and Connor Tavarone, Cameron Critti, Emma and Kyler Tavarone; siblings, Barbara Mitchell and Greg Tavarone; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Richard Joseph Tavarone.

At Pete's request, there will be no local services.  The family will hold a private memorial in Wyoming at a later date.
