Obituary

Philip Nicolas Licastri passed away on May 30, 2023, at Bridgewater Nursing Home in Binghamton, NY.

Phil was born June 11, 1936 to Joseph and Katherine (Sinibaldi) Licastri and raised on Staten Island, NY.  After graduating high school Phil intended to play football at Wagner College but instead joined the U.S Army.  When honorably discharged he joined his father's cabinet-making business along with his brothers, Gus and Vincent.  He eventually ventured out on his own to become a self-employed carpenter.  Phil could freehand sketch exactly what he intended to build with the skill of an artist and his work often exceeded expectations. Phil had many interests and was always eager to learn or experience something new. He was an avid reader. He was typically quiet and a keen observer of the nuances of life and, as a result, when he did speak, he often said something profound or hilarious.

In 1957 Phil married the love of his life, Louise LoBaido who along with Phil became the foundation and guideposts for six beautiful children. In 1973 Phil and Louise moved the entire tribe to Oneonta, NY.  His family grew to include eleven grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters who all adored his loving gentle demeanor.

Phil (AKA Chief, Poppa Chief, Pop, and Poppie) is survived by children, Joseph (Cheryl) Licastri, Maria (Gordon) Robst, Katherine (Jeffery) Wood, Philip, Jr. (Kathleen) LiCastri, and Vincent (Jill) Licastri; Grandchildren, Gabrielle and Tamara Licastri, Jesse Robst, Philip Wood (Liz), Emmett, Carson, and Keely LiCastri, and Mollie, Tess, Grace and Isabella Rose Licastri, and great granddaughters, Adelynne and Cheryl Ann.

Phil was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Louise; son, Salvatore, and siblings, Costantino (Gus), Nancy, Vincent, and Joseph.

There will be no calling hours.  Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Emmons at 11 a.m. June 12, 2023.

Arrangements are being handled by Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.
