COOPERSTOWN, NY - Phyllis Zinn/Levy of Cooperstown, NY slipped away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2008 (29 AV 5768).
She was born Phyllis Gertrude Susser on June 9th 1916 at the Queen Victoria Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa the only daughter of Solomon and Ida (Son) and elder sister of Mervyn.
She received her Bachelor of Arts at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and her Teacher's Diploma at Teacher's Training College. She was an Elementary school teacher until she married Joseph David Levy in 1939 and had three children, Ernest, Gloria and Lynette. Joe, a warm and wonderful man died in 1962. She married Morrie Zinn in 1968, a kind and gentle man who died in 1993.
Phyllis joined her family in the United States in 1994, living in Cooperstown and becoming a United States citizen.
Phyllis was an award winning pianist and a very good tennis player. She was also the chair woman of WIZO of the Pretoria Branch of South Africa.
With her combined family of six children she is survived by 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren scattered all over the world.
She had a good and very happy life, enjoying exceptional good health until recently. She passed away peacefully, content and fulfilled. She was a kind and gentle person, always dignified, and was loved by all who knew her.
Services and burial with Rabbi Donald Neil Roberts at the Temple Beth El Cemetery, Emmons, at 12 noon, Wednesday September 3, 2008. Followed at the Temple Beth El, 83 Chestnut Street, Oneonta. Prayers will be held at 2511 County Highway 33, Cooperstown at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2008.
