Obituary

Richard C. Arnold (Dick) passed away unexpectedly on October 31, 2022 at the age of 90.

He was born in his family home in Schenevus, NY on June 22, 1932 to Forrest J. and Nellie M. (Loudon) Arnold.

Dick and Gladys Card were married on January 15, 1951 in the Schenevus Methodist Church.

Following graduation from Andrew S. Draper Central School, Dick enlisted in the United States Marine Corps for 3 years. During that time, he served in Korea from 1951 to 1952.

In 2009 Dick and Gladys were able to take part in a trip to Korea provided by The Korean Government for the veterans who served in Korea during the war. While there, Dick was amazed by how different things looked as compared to how he remembered it from when he was there during the conflict. He was also proud to participate in an Honor Flight trip to the Memorials in Washington, DC.

Following his departure from the service, Dick pursued a lifelong career as an over-the-road truck driver. He worked many years with several trucking companies and the Greyhound Bus Line. While working for Lane Construction Co. he hauled heavy equipment, retiring in 1994.

After their retirement, he and Gladys moved to Sarasota, FL and would return to their home in Schenevus for the summer months.

Dick was a member and former Commander of the American Legion, Worcester Chapter, a lifetime member and former Vice Commander of the VFW, Schenevus Chapter, and a member of the US Marine Corps Association. He was a true patriot who loved his country.

Dick was an avid follower of Paul Harvey and enjoyed listening to his interesting storytelling radio shows. At noon, he would stop whatever he was doing to be sure he wouldn't miss it. He also spent his spare time tinkering and repairing things around the house and enjoyed watching many different sporting events on television.

Dick was a kind hearted man with a very gentle nature. He loved to watch and listen to the robins and other birds upon their arrival in the spring. He showed compassion for every living thing, animals and man alike. Everyone loved his bright blue eyes and warm smile and his sense of humor, especially his unique chuckle and ability to entertain with a yodel now and then.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Gladys Arnold; his children, Wendy Beams (David), Richard Arnold, Debra O'Connor, David Arnold (Deb) and Linda Dominguez; he is survived by his sister, Rosemary (Bob) Price and sister-in-law, Eleanor Arnold. He was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, soon to be 20. His first great-great grandchild is expected in March 2023. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Dick was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, John and Gary.

Dick will be laid to rest at The National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida with Honor Guard Ceremony on November 25, 2022.
