Richard E. (Dick) Andrews Sr.
ONEONTA - Richard E. (Dick) Andrews Sr., 72, passed away at his home with his family by his side, Sunday, December 30, 2007.
Dick was born the son of Joseph and Oleta (Babcock) Andrews, September 16, 1935 in Amsterdam, NY.
Dick and Elaine Miller were joined in marriage at the West Oneonta Baptist Church in February of 1958.
He volunteered to serve his country in the United States Army Reserves in 1958. He was a member of Company G at Fort Drum in Watertown, NY.
Dick was considered to be a hand's on type of person. He worked for 42 years for the E.VanDeBogart Construction Company. During the summer season he was a heavy equipment operator. During the winter months he was the head mechanic in the equipment shop. At one time or another Dick operated every piece of equipment from the complicated drag lines to bulldozers.
He was a lifetime resident and a member of many different organizations including the Charlotte Valley Snowmobile Club where he held many offices, the NRA, West Davenport Free Will Baptist Church to name a few. He was also a past member of the Pindars Corners Fire Department and a temporary member of the Operator Engineers Union.
Dick had a great love for his family and all outdoor activities which include hunting, fishing, camping, boating, four wheeling, snowmobiling and trapping. He had great interest in antique cars and snowmobiles.
Dick is survived by his loving wife, Elaine and family; a daughter, Cheryl L. Amo and boyfriend, Gary T. Fisher of Davenport; a son, Richard (Rick) Andrews and wife, Jodie of West Davenport; five grandchildren, Michael, Lacey and Rickey of Davenport, Raina and Kyle of West Davenport; one brother, David E. Andrews Sr. and wife, Frances of Davenport Center; two sisters, Jean and special brother-in-law, Keith Rider of Davenport Center and Elizabeth (Aunt Betty) Townsend of Oneonta; a sister-in-law, Enid Vila of Binghamton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by both parents, Oleta B. and John H Sargent; his paternal father Joseph Andrews; one brother, Wayne (Pete) Andrews, brother-in-law, Eugene Miller and a sister-in-law, Earlene Illenberg.
The funeral service will take place at 3:00 PM, Monday, January 7, 2008 at the West Davenport Free Will Baptist Church in West Davenport.
Calling hours for Dick will be held Sunday, January 6, 2008 from 2:00 – 5:00 PM at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz Street, Oneonta.
Burial will take palce at the Charlotte Valley Cemetery later in the spring.
