Richard "Dick" G. Currie of South Gibson, Pennsylvania (formerly of Oneonta) was born on December 8, 1935 at West Davenport, NY to Floyd F. and Thelma A. (Squaires) Currie. He passed away on November 8, 2021 at Scranton, Pennsylvania at the age of 85 years and 11 months.
Dick grew up in the Davenport and Oneonta areas. He attended high school in Davenport. After high school he served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960 and was stationed in Kansas where he married his wife, Ernestine Goracke, February 8, 1958.
In 1961 he returned to New York to raise his family. Dick drove semi-trucks and tow trucks over the years and in 2004 he started his own tow truck business, Dick's Towing in Oneonta NY. He retired in 2016. Dick enjoyed spending time with his family, antique cars, hunting, fishing, socializing and coffee with the coffee group at Fox Care.
Survivors include wife, Ernestine of South Gibson, Pennsylvania; son, Anthony (Luann) Currie of Donnelly, Idaho; daughters, Cynthia (Dean) Avery of Gresham, Nebraska and Theresa (Sandy) LoSapio of South Gibson, Pennsylvania; grandsons, Michael LoSapio of Thompson, Pennsylvania, Eric Currie of Cascade, Idaho, Jeremy Currie of Boise, Idaho; sister, Dorothy D'Esposito of Palm Coast, Florida; brother, Walter Currie of Delhi, New York; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Currie of Port Crane, New York and Doreine Sleek of Salina, Kansas; aunt, Pearl Daley of Davenport, New York, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Al Rosa; brother, Roy Currie; brother-in-law, Jim D'Esposito; sister-in-law, Donna Currie and brother-in-law, Russell Sleek.
Memorial services with military honors are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, NY, with the Rev. John Buddle officiating. Family will greet friends and relatives one hour prior to services.
Interment will be at a later date in Kansas.
Memorials may be directed to the Pindars Corner Fire Department or to the family.
