Obituary

Otego – Richard J. "Dick" O'Hara, 79, of Otego, passed away peacefully, Sunday, October 21, 2012, at home with his family by his side.

He was born January 16, 1933, in Otego, the son of James and Ellen (Kelly) O'Hara.

Dick was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.

He married Shirley Alexander on February 12, 1955. She predeceased him on September 11, 1986. He then married Ellen Sanford in December of 1989.

Dick was employed by the New York State Police for 21 years in Troop F and Troop C. He retired from Troop C in 1981 as an Investigator. He also worked for the Delaware County Sheriff's Department until 1987.

He was a member of St. Mary's Church, the Oneonta Elks Club, and the Oneonta American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen O'Hara of Otego; his daughter Kim, her husband, Michael, and his grandson, Ryan Carson, all of Otego. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and special friends.

He was predeceased by his seven brothers, Vincent, James, Thomas, Ambrose, Patrick, Carl and John "Jack".

Calling hours will be held 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m., Friday, October 26th at the funeral home, with the Rev. John P. Rosson, officiating.

Interment with military honors will be 10 a.m., Saturday, October 27th at the Ouleout Valley Cemetery in Franklin.
