Richard Stannard, Jr. of Davenport, NY passed away on March 12, 2023, surrounded by loved ones at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, NY.
Richard was born on February 12, 1939 in Jefferson, NY where he was raised and attended high school.
On November 21, 1960, Richard Stannard, Jr. wed Volneta Strobeck in Jefferson, NY. Together they built a beautiful life in their 62 years of marriage and proudly share 6 children, 15 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren. Richard was a man of many qualities and was skilled in numerous trades. He worked for the Jefferson Highway Department for 12 years. He retired as manager of Royal Oak, Inc in Stamford, NY in 1997 after 30 years of employment. He also enjoyed his work as owner of Stannard Excavating for many years.
Richard was an outdoorsman that enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also liked tending to his vegetable garden and lending a hand with any project. Richard assisted with many fundraisers held at the Harpersfield Grange and Davenport Firehouse as well.
Richie was a cherished patriarch and pillar to his family, providing them with unending love and support. He was an admired, kindhearted, and humble man whose company and wisdom were sought out by so many throughout his life. Richard will be deeply missed by countless people and leaves behind a monumental legacy.
Richard was predeceased by his beloved parents, Richard Stannard, Sr. and Luella Stannard (Miller) that affectionately called him Honey; siblings, Henry, Llyod, Francis, Ruth, and Donald; daughter, Debra Rossman (Stannard); grandson, Jeremiah Rossman; great-grandsons, Jonathan Everson, Jr. and Jack Everson, and daughter-in-law, Karen Stannard (Mondore).
Richard is survived by his dearly loved wife, Volneta Stannard (Strobeck) of Davenport; children, Darlene (Paul) Brownell of Milford, Daniel Stannard (Teresa Haughn) of Worcester, Duane (Rose) Stannard of Hobart, Dominick Stannard of Davenport, Darrell Stannard (Veronica Jones) of Worcester; brother, Ronald (Sandy) Stannard of Jefferson; son-in-law, James Rossman of Schenevus, and daughters-in-law, Wendy Guile of Charlotteville and Annemarie Stannard (Mondore) of Davenport. He will also be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Sheila, Heather, Amanda, Jason, Brian, Kayla, Danielle, Elizabeth, Darrell Jr., Courtney, Samantha, Brooke, Lillyana, and Logan as well as 25 great-grandchildren. Additionally, he has several surviving nieces and nephews and a dear friend Richard Stone.
The family can be joined for a memorial gathering from 1 - 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 26 th at East Meredith Firehouse, 6192 County Highway 10.
Richard will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Jefferson, NY Friday, May 19, 2023 at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the North Hapersfield United Methodist Church, 343 Colonel Harper Dr., Hapersfield, NY 13786.
