JOHNSTOWN – Robert A. Adler, 83, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2011 at Pineview Commons in Johnstown, NY.
He was born January 20, 1928 in Woodhaven, the son of Henry and Hildegarde (Taute) Adler.
Bob married Dorothy M. Boos on March 8, 1953. She predeceased him on January 21, 2002.
He was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II.
Bob owned and operated the South Shore Tree Works, a landscaping business on Long Island for over 40 years. He retired from the maintenance department at the Levittown School District.
Bob and Dot bought property in Charlotteville in 1986. Together they built their cabin and moved there permanently in 1991. He was an active member of the Charlotteville community. He was a founding member of the Schoolhouse Restoration Committee, a founding member of the Charlotteville Annual Old Home Day Celebration, and a member of the Charlotteville Fire Department.
After Dot's death, Bob sold the cabin and moved to Ilion and then in April of 2010 moved to Pineview Commons. He was known and loved for his willingness to help the staff and residents there. He always had a project in the works, which led to his caring for the grounds his first year living at Pineview Commons.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Bertos; two sons, Warren and Christina Adler and Arthur and Coleen Adler; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter Adler; a sister, Dorothea Kreibeck; a former wife, Jane Kamp; a very special friend and companion, Marie Serge; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28th at Pineview Commons, 201 South Melcher St. in Johnstown
Interment will be at the Charlotteville Cemetery at the family's convenience.
