ONEONTA - Robert Carlson Frutiger, Jr., 51, of Lakewood, CO, formerly of Oneonta, died Monday, September 24, 2012 while out hiking in the mountains near his home.
He was born August 1, 1961 in Yuma, AZ, the son of Robert C. Frutiger, Sr. and Marjorie (Gibson) Frutiger.
Bob grew up in Long Beach, CA. After high school he joined the United States Marine Corps. After the Marines, Bob worked in the automotive industry for many years before moving to Oneonta. He lived in Oneonta for the last 20 years. He had recently moved to Colorado.
Bob was very proud of his children and loved spending time with them, especially outdoors. They enjoyed hiking, canoeing and camping. Bob was proud of his Predators, the girls travel soccer team he coached for over ten years. Bob was an active member of the Oneonta Football Booster Club and on game days, he would be the first person there to fire up the grill and start flipping those burgers. Bob also enjoyed music and barbequing; he was known for making a great rack of ribs.
He is survived by his daughter, Audree Louise Frutiger of New Port, RI; his son, Robert Christopher Frutiger of Oneonta; their mother, Pamela Frutiger of Oneonta; half sisters, Kari Frutiger-Jensen and Roberta Risley both of Minnesota, a brother-in-law, Donald Ventre of Washington, DC; a loving mother-in-law, Patricia Ventre of Oneonta; and close friends, Pike and Amy Quinn of Aurora, CO.
Calling hours will be held 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 5, 2012 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with a Masonic Service at 7:45 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a fund has been set up to assist his children in their education. Donations can be sent to 14 Forest Avenue, Oneonta, NY 13820.
