ONEONTA – Robert D. Sloan, 71, passed away with his family by his side on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown after a lengthy illness.

He was born February 10, 1940 in Stamford, the son of Roy and Katherine (Hastings) Sloan.

After high school Bob started working at Slater's Systems at SUNY Oneonta in 1959 and elevated his way to being the Director of Food Services. He then went on to pursue other career interests, including owning and operating the Ranch House restaurant in Oneonta. He returned to O.A.S. at SUNY Oneonta where he retired as the Director of Retail Operations in 1999.

Bob was passionate about golf, cooking, gardening, hunting and fishing. He attended the West Oneonta Baptist Church and was a long time member of the Oneonta Elks Club, where he was manager until his illness and the Woodhaven Golf Club, where he enjoyed playing golf with the same group for many years.

He is survived by wife, Alice (Dean) Sloan, whom he married in 1981; son, Eric and wife, Sarah Sloan of Liverpool and granddaughter, Samantha; son, Christopher and wife, Debbie Sloan of Oneonta and granddaughter, Shannon and husband, Brent and great-grandchildren, Makayla and Lucas; son, Michael and wife, Charlyn Corgan of Chenango Forks, and grandchildren, Erin and wife, Jessie, Micaela and Linnae; daughter, Cindy and husband, Robert Behnke of Oneonta and grandson, Bobby and wife, Deanna, and great-grandchildren, Kadence, Payton and Pacey, and grandson, Greg and wife, Jessica and great-granddaughter, Kaylee; son, Brian and wife, Jennifer Corgan of Mt. Upton and grandchildren, John, Daniel, Rebecca, Josiah and Christina. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters; Alan and wife, Nancy Sloan of Stuart, Fla., Janice Ballard of Oneonta, Bruce and wife, Jane Sloan of Oneonta, and Barbara and husband, George Stoehr of Oneonta; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and a brother-in-law, Stub Ballard.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, January 26, 2012 at the West Oneonta Baptist Church, 2845 County Highway 8, West Oneonta, with the Rev. Timothy Thurber, pastor and the Rev. Carol Wilson, pastor of North Kortright Presbyterian Church, officiating.

There will be no callings hours.
