PORTLANDVILLE – Robert L. Neilson, 39, passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester after a short illness.
He was born December 4, 1968 in Oneonta, the son of John C. and Patricia (Hazzard) Neilson.
Rob was a graduate of Milford Central School, Class of 1988. He attended Tompkins Cortland Community College in Dryden, majoring in Hotel Technology and Business.
Rob married Erica Armstrong in January of 1997 and they relocated from New York to North Little Rock Arkansas.
He worked in the food service industry and held such jobs as kitchen manager, assistant food service director, banquet line cook, executive chef and sous chef. While working as a sous chef at "Elizabeth's on Crestwood" Rob appeared as the guest chef on channel 7's "Good Morning Arkansas" show.
Rob loved classic cars, corvettes and music. He was a kind, gentle and generous man, who gave the ultimate gift to others by the donation of his body to the Rochester Eye and Tissue Bank.
He is survived by his former wife and best friend, Erica Armstrong; his father and step mother, Jack and Joanne Neilson; his sister, Nicole Neilson and her care takers, Shelia Taft and Cindy Northup; step sister, Kimberly and her husband, Andrew Frazier; paternal grandmother, Martha McCune; maternal grandfather, Robert Hazzard; former in-laws, Greg and Silvia Armstrong; an uncle, Thomas Neilson; uncle and aunt, Peter and Veronica Hazzard; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his mother, Patricia.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, December 15, 2007 at the Sandhill Methodist Church in Unadilla, with the Rev. Brandilynne Craver, pastor, officiating.
Rob believed in giving generously to the Salvation Army Christmas Red Kettle Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in loving memory of Rob to Salvation Army, Christmas Red Kettle Fund, 25 River Street, Oneonta, NY 13820 or to the Friends at Bassett, Tribute Fund, 1 Atwell Road, Cooperstown, NY 13326.
