Obituary

Robert (Bob) Schlee of Oneonta, 80, passed away peacefully at home on September 4, 2020. Born in Hunter, NY on September 23, 1939, he was the son of the late Wilma Kay (Bates)and Robert Hudson Waters Schlee.  He graduated from Laurens Central School in 1956.  He owned and operated R.N. Schlee Contracting for over 45 years, including a time period where he also served as a project manager for Hough Brothers, Inc., overseeing the building of feed mills in numerous locations around the country.  He was particularly skilled at masonry.  He also designed and built his family's home and took pride in maintaining the beautiful property.

Described by all as kind, genuine, and highly intelligent, Bob had a great sense of humor and had a talent for finding just the right nickname for everyone. In his earlier years, he was an avid outdoorsman and adventurer.  He enjoyed scuba diving, fishing trips to Canada, big game hunting, and piloting small planes.  As he slowed down a bit, he challenged himself with difficult Sudoku and crossword puzzles, which were often accompanied by a big bowl of ice cream or a slice (or two) of cheesecake.

Robert (Papa to his grandchildren) was predeceased by his wife, Doris who passed away in May. He was also predeceased by his brother, Richard and his sister, Elizabeth.

He is survived by his two daughters, Lori (Brian) DeLola and Amy (Wayne) Allen; his five grandchildren who he treasured time with: Brett, Ryan, and Kelsey DeLola and Connor and Emersen Allen; his sister, Barbara (John) Lisk; his sister-in-law, Imogene Schlee; and, many nieces and nephews who were fond of and looked up to Uncle Robert.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or the Laurens Fire Department.

Arrangements are with Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta. Share condolences at www.lhpfuneralhome.com

A celebration of life for Robert and Doris will be held at a later date.
