SWAIN, NY – Robert James Smith, 92, formerly of Worcester, died Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Nicholas H. Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville, NY.
He was born July 10, 1922 in Cape Hatteras, NC, the son of Floyd Blane Smith and Edna Mildred Smith.
Robert was a United States Navy veteran serving during World War II from 1940 to 1944 and obtained the rank of Mid Shipman.
He married Doris J. Holscher on July 9, 1944 in New Milford, NJ.
He received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Music Education. He was an Elementary Instrumental Music Teacher for 30 years, retiring in 1978 from the Dansville Central School District.
He is predeceased by his wife, Doris; his daughter, Barbara E. Swain; brother, Floyd B. Smith; and sister, June Beardsley.
He is survived by his sister, Sonya Ostendarp of the State of Delaware; granddaughter, Connie Dalyrmple of Oneonta; great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Will Dalyrmple; son-in-law, James Swain of Swain; several nieces and nephews.
A private interment with military honors will be held at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester, at a later date.
