Obituary

ONEONTA – Rodger E. Ruteshouser, 77, died Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at Bassett Healthcare Hospital in Cooperstown.

He was born October 3, 1930 in New Kingston, NY, the son of Edward and Mildred (Gray) Ruteshouser.

In his youth Mr. Ruteshouser lived in Hobart, Halscottsville and Walton. In later years he resided in Oxford, Unadilla, Otego and Oneonta.

Mr. Ruteshouser served in the United States Army from September 11, 1951 to August 14, 1953, during the Korean War, being assigned to Germany.

After his release from the service he worked at Amphenol Planet in Sidney for 1 ½ years. From there he worked at The Daily Star as a printer for 37 ½ years until his retirement in 1992.

He served as Chapel Chairman and President of the former Local 135 International Typographical Union. After their affiliation with Utica Local 62 I.T.U and later Utica Local 62 of the Communication Workers of America, he served a number of years as Chapel Chairman. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 259, Oneonta.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Holly Ruteshouser of Spring, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Eileen Cristy Ruteshouser and Richard Roberts of Spring, Texas; three grandchildren, Rachel Nicole, Steven Ross and Sean Michael; a sister, Mary Ruteshouser Brant of New Port Richey, FL and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, a sister, June Ruteshouser Saros, and his special friend, Patricia Markey.

Calling hours will be Monday, October 22, 2007 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home in Oneonta. The Graveside service with military honors will follow at the Roxbury Methodist Cemetery.
