Ronald Clay Moak, 73, of Centreville, VA died January 26, 2026 surrounded by family and friends at Inova Hospital, Fairfax, Virginia after a long struggle with COPD.

Ronald was born April 3, 1952 in Tokyo, Japan during the American occupation after WWII. Ronald was the second of three sons born to Gifford Earl Moak and Christine Clay Moak. Ronald lived in multiple states and countries as he grew up. Ultimately, graduating from George C. Marshall High School, Falls Church, VA in 1970. As a Boy Scout, Ronald earned his Eagle Scout Award, Ordeal Order of the Arrow, and his God and Country Award.

He joined the US Army in 1970 and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He distinguished himself during the Battle of An Loc in the Spring of 1972 ultimately being awarded the Bronze Star with Valor. After his time in the Army, Ronald worked for the Department of Energy for 10 years in several roles as an Administrative Assistant and Procurement Assistant. His service to several different branch and division directors resulted in numerous awards for his exemplary acts of service. Ronald then went on to serve as a babysitter for his three grandchildren, providing daycare on as needed basis.

Ronald had an interest in travel, history, and fishing. He loved to read and would recommend books to friends and family. One such book, Freedom At All Costs by Daniel K. Luc was a book about the Battle of An Loc, Viet Nam that specifically mentioned some of his army superiors that he served with. He loved to create all kinds of artwork which enticed the viewer to "think outside the box". An advocate for different causes, Ronald would often write papers to those in political office using his artwork to generate curiosity and interest. As someone who loved the Lord with all his might, he was also a good neighbor, always quick to have a smile and offer an ear for listening.

Ronald is survived by his former wife, Carmen Alvarado, his daughter, Natalie Elizabeth Covell and her husband Matthew Covell, his three grandchildren: Lia Elizabeth Perry, Anthony Kadin Perry, Kalia Elizabeth Brontoli, his two brothers, Gifford Paul Moak (and wife Vicki Moak) and Richard Earl Moak, his nephews Shawn Daily and G. Paul Moak, II and niece, Alexandra Hannah Moak and his cousin Kathryn Bineau.

Celebration of Life service was held on January 30, 2026 at 1 PM at National Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042.

Graveside service with military honors will be 12 PM, Friday, May 1, 2026 at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Cook Street, Worcester, New York.
