Obituary

ONEONTA - Rosemary Baskin died April 28, 2025.

She was born in Endicott, to Dorothy (Colegrove) and Armando Parisella.

Rosemary was a graduate of Vestal High School, where she was salutatorian, class of 1956. She earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from Harpur College (SUNY Binghamton) and Master of Science in biochemistry from Penn State where she met her future husband, John Baskin. Both taught at SUNY Brockport briefly before moving to Oneonta to teach. They were married June 15, 1964 and Rosemary stopped teaching to raise her family.

She later returned to SUNY Oneonta to become a Registered Dietitian, writing a cookbook for restricted diets and a food limit guide for Consumer Reports books. She also co-founded GOFAR, an organization dedicated to reducing the number of homeless, unwanted and euthanized animals in the greater Oneonta area. The Baskins retired and moved to Pennsylvania, but enjoyed summers at their camp on Arnold Lake, Hartwick, which Rosemary loved. She returned to Oneonta following the passing of her husband, John.

She is survived by her beloved family; sons, William and Walter; daughter-in-law Kim; grandchildren, Hannah (Andrew), Emily, Sam (Bay), and Sadie; sister-in-law Sally (Michael) Kobus. Sally was more like a sister and spent a large part of Rosemary's final days with her. Additionally, she was very happy to be able to welcome her first great-grandson, Arlo, to the world!

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral services.

Donations can be made in her memory to Helios Care, 297 River Street Service Road, Oneonta.

Funeral arrangements are by Lewis Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta.
