DECATUR – Roy C. Parker, 83, born August 22, 1925, died July 16, 2009 with his family at his side after a courageous battle with several illnesses.
He was a United States Navy veteran serving in World War II with the Pacific Fleet.
Roy was a member of the Schenevus VFW, the Worcester American Legion, the East Worcester Fish & Game Club, where he served as president for 25 years, the East Worcester Fire Department for over 50 years, a life member of the Richmondville Rifle & Pistol Club, The New York State Peace Officer Association, a Special Deputy for the Charlotteville Protective Association, and was the Town of Decatur Constable.
He was a welder, fabricator and machinist all of his life, and worked 20 years side by side with his son, David at his business Welding and Brazing Services, Inc., in East Worcester. Roy was a craftsman, his love of doing things right earned him the nickname of "Micrometer Roy". His other passions in life were working on the farm with his brother, Allen and special son, Keith; telling stories of his early childhood in Nova Scotia and of course fishing with his family.
He is survived by a sister, Chloe and her husband, George VanValen of Trumansburg; a son, David and his wife, Kay Parker of Worcester and Richfield Springs, their children, Sara and her husband, Jason Hempstead of Milford; a daughter, Julia and her husband, Keith Althiser, their children, Katie, Stefan and Amanda of Richmondville; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Parker of Worcester; a grandson, Roy A. Parker and his wife, Jill and their children, Jacob and Thomas of Richmondville; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Edwina (Wilcox) Parker in 2002; a son, Harold "Butch" Parker in 2003; two sisters, Helen Holter and Helena Adair; and a brother, Allen Parker.
Calling hours will be at the E.J. Skinner Funeral Chapel in Worcester on Monday, July 20, 2009 from 10 a.m. to the service at 11a.m., with the Rev. Keith Vandewerker, retired, officiating.
Interment with military honors will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester.
