Obituary

Oneonta – Russell L. Hotaling, 96, passed away February 23, 2021 at A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.

He was born February 16, 1925 in Hamden, the son of Myron and Elsie (Congdon) Hotaling.

Russell was a Untied States Navy veteran serving during World War II.

He worked at AV Mincolla in Oneonta in sales and as a truck driver. Russ was a member of the VFW and American Legion 259 Oneonta. He was bigger than life and put a large mark on his community. A legend in baseball and basketball, the team he coached in the pacific area winning 23 of 26 contests against other ships. He was active for many years playing softball in the Sunday morning leagues and local tournaments, he played softball well into his 70's. Uncle Russ mad the best corn beef and cabbage for the 6th ward athletic club and American legion post 259.

He is survived several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sisters, Marjorie Edson, Clara Waring; his brothers, Charles Hotaling, Allen F Hotaling Sr.

A graveside service with military honors will be held for Russell Hotaling, as well as his sister, Clara Waring, at 11 a.m. Friday, August 27, 2021 at the Milford Cemetery, with the Rev. Joel Shue, officiating.
