SCHENEVUS – Ruth M. Grimes, 93, passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at the Oneonta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on July 27, 1917 in Simpsonville, NY, the daughter of James L. and Blanche (Osborne) McMorris.

She married George L. Grimes on July 1, 1944 in Fergusonville.

Ruth worked for Wick's Restaurant in Schenevus from 1940 to 1945 and was a reporter for the Worcester Times Monitor from 1962 retiring in 1982.

Ruth was a member of the Schenevus United Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 138. She was a past member of the Schenevus Valley Grange, the Town of Maryland Historical Society and Town Historian. She also was the School Tax Collector from 1953 to 1962.

Ruth had a great sense of humor and was always upbeat. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by two nephews, Duane and wife, Mary McMorris of Otego and Osborne and wife, Marjorie McMorris of Otego; several grand nieces, grand nephews, great nieces and great nephews; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Roseboom of Unadilla.

She was predeceased by her husband, George on April 15, 1995; a brother, E.O. McMorris Sr., and wife, Leona; sister-in-law, Gladys and husband, Lewis Smith; two brothers-in-law, John Leslie Grimes and Leland Roseboom.

Calling hours will be held at the Heller Funeral Home, Schenevus, on Monday, August 16, 2010 from 1 p.m. to the funeral service at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Lawrence Russell, pastor of the Schenevus United Methodist Church, officiating. There will be an Order of the Eastern Star service at 1:45 p.m.

Interment will follow at the Maryland Cemetery.
