Obituary

Ruth Lee Smith, 83, passed away Friday, March 5, 2010 at her home in Caracas, Venezuela.

She was born December 7, 1926, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Dr. William George and Dr. Mary Alden (Morgan) Haupt Lee Street.

She married Warren W. Smith, Jr. on September 4th, 1955 at Emmons Farms.

Ruth Smith was an advertising copy writer, commercial artist and one of the main architects as well as a long time director of Emmons Farms Corporation.

A graduate of Vassar College, Ruth led an elegant, energetic and highly creative life at the side of her husband and surrounded by her four children. Adventurous in nature, Ruth was project-driven, fulfilling many endeavors.

Playful in spirit, Ruth enjoyed sports, games of all kinds and traveling. A devoted mother, Ruth shared her radiant love, optimism and positive outlook on life with all people she encountered.

She is survived by her husband, Warren W. Smith, Jr.; her children Warren W. Smith, III, Roxa L. Smith, Kora M. Smith and Ruth S. Smith; grandchildren Alexis Smith-Juvelis, Djamika Smith, Djaruna Smith, Isaac W. Toub and Sara L. Toub; and nephews Lee Peakes, Prof. Dr. Walter Haupt and Karl Haupt.

A gravesite service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, August 7th, 2010 at the Riverside Cemetery in Oneonta. Following the service, an open house will be held at Woodchuck Knoll, 19 Emmons Farms Road.

Donations may be made in loving memory of Mrs. Smith to the SDS/MSA Support Group (www.shy-Drager.org) which sought to help Ruth.
