ONEONTA- Sandra L. Berger, 72, passed away with her family by her side on March 22, 2017, at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown.

She was born March 10, 1945, in Oneonta, the daughter of Harold A. Stenson and Marion L. (Bennington) Stenson. Sandra attended Oneonta schools until the family moved to Laurens. She graduated from Laurens Central School. Sandra married James K. Berger.

Years ago, she worked at the Dairy Queen. She was a custodian at the Oneonta High School and finished her career at Greater Plains School. She loved being around the children, staff and faculty.

She was an active member of the Elm Park Methodist Church serving on many committees over the years. She belonged to X Phi Sorority. She was a talented seamstress, an avid reader, and had an infectious laugh. She cherished being with family and friends especially her pride and joy, her son, James.

Sandra is survived by her son, James J. Berger, sisters Grace McDowell, Frances and husband, Martin Northrup, Janice and her husband, Allan, Sharon Shaver, Nadine Stenson, and her brother, Harold Stenson. She was "Aunt Sandy" to many loving nieces and nephews having them come to bake and make crafts with James on many holidays.

She was predeceased by her parents and sisters, Freda Scavo and Amelia Shearer Rukan.

The family would like to thank the special care that Focus Otsego and Bassett Medical Center provided to Sandra.

The memorial service will be at the Elm Park Methodist, 401 Chestnut St, Oneonta, on Friday, March 31, with the Rev. Donna Martin officiating. The family will be in attendance at 5:00 pm followed by the service at 5:30 pm. There will be a light dinner in the social hall after the service.
