Schenevus – Sharon L. Heller, 84, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Friday, February 13, 2026.
She was born April 6, 1941, in Marquette, MI, the daughter of Alphonse J. and Louise A. (Koepp) King.
Sharon grew up in Mattydale. She graduated from North Syracuse High School and received her Registered Nurse degree from St. Joseph's College of Nursing in Syracuse.
She married Frank M. Heller on August 10, 1963, in Mattydale.
In 1967, she and Frank moved to Schenevus when they purchased the Heller Funeral Home. She worked for many years as an RN at A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta. Sharon was fortunate to have been able to retire from nursing in 1989 following the birth of her first granddaughter. Grandma Sharon's home continued to be filled with her beloved grandchildren. She was an avid reader, and loved to garden and cook. Her door and the refrigerator were always open to her family, friends, and stray animals as well. In her younger years, Sharon was on a bowling league in Oneonta and played softball with the Foxy Ladies and Heller Funeral Home teams, and volleyball at the Oneonta Armory with the Heller Funeral Home team.
She was an active parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Worcester, serving as a member of the parish council. She also served as the Town of Maryland Registrar for many years.
She is survived by her children, Deborah Makofske (Thomas) of Schenevus, Richard Heller (Tammy) of Murfreesboro, TN, Kathleen Pietrobono (John) of Worcester, and Michael Heller (Sandra) of Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren, Victoria Chopan (Jeffrey), Amanda Heller, Teryn and Bryce Pietrobono, McKenna Heller (Tyler Platt), and extended grandchildren, Hunter and Ava; great-granddaughter, Addison Decker; siblings, Sheila Pare (Bud) and Timothy King (Susan); and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank, and her nephew, James Pare.
A heartfelt thank you to Sharon's caregivers Lisa, Isabella, Hailey and Sandi and neighbor Terry for your kindness and compassion shown to our mother over the years.
