ONEONTA – Sharon Ann Shumway went to be with the Lord and joined her husband and parents, on Tuesday, November 25, 2008. She died at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, at the age of 66.

She was born November 14, 1942 in Oneonta, the daughter of Edward and Grace (Lillian) Elmendorf.

Sharon married Grant Shumway in 1985 at the Main Street Baptist Church in Oneonta. He predeceased her on July 5, 2004.

Sharon ran a beauty shop from her home on Main Street in Oneonta for many years. She then worked for the Oneonta School District as an assistant to the bus driver for special needs children.

She was member of the Main Street Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. Sharon helped many elderly people over the past several years. She loved making chocolate and fudge for fairs and the holidays for family and friends, and also enjoyed arts and crafts and knitting.

Sharon is survived by her brother, Edward and his wife, Carol Elmendorf of Springfield, VA; a nephew, Eric Elmendorf Sr.; a niece, Kim Schneider; great nieces and nephews, Abigail, Eric Jr., Blake, Brandon, Kailey and Harliegh; aunt and uncle, Vin and Helen Schoonmaker of West Winfield and several cousins.

The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at the Main Street Baptist Church, Oneonta from 12:00 p.m. to the memorial service at 12:30 p.m., with the Rev. Gary Bonebrake, pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow at the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.
