Obituary

ONEONTA - Sheldon TerBush Jr."Terby" of Oneonta passed away at Bassett Hospital on May 9, 2012 with family at his side.

Terby was born March 6, 1930 in Oneonta to Sheldon TerBush Sr. and Dorothy Doster TerBush.

He grew up in Oneonta and graduated from Oneonta Senior High
School in 1948 where he played many varsity sports; football, basketball, tennis and track. He was a member of the very first ski team at OHS.

On June 3, 1951 he married Elizabeth "Betty" Michaels in Cooperstown.

They enjoyed 60 years of faithful devotion and lovingly raised three
children; Sheldon Craig, Ellen Jane, and David Charles.

Terby, Betty, and their family enjoyed many ski trips throughout the years. He especially enjoyed the trips to Banff, Canada and St. Anton, Austria with family and friends. In recent years there were many trips to Colorado and Utah where Terby enjoyed skiing with his grandchildren and son David. Terby also served as a volunteer member of The National Ski Patrol for 38 years, serving primarily at Scotch Valley and Plattekill ski areas.

Terby was blessed with many friends with whom he shared many
fishing, hunting, skiing and golf outings. Many of these friends shared these adventures for over 60 years.

Terby loved his church family (Laurens Presbyterian Church) and
spent many hours helping and sharing his talents and skills with them.

Terby's love for gardening has been passed onto his children and
grandchildren. Each and everyone of them is guilty of stealing Grandpa's fresh peas off the vine and eating them raw. Anybody that stopped by in season would always leave with fresh veggies.

Terby provided for his family through the years by working for Wilber National Bank, John Eckert Volkswagen, Stowe VW of Norwich, Ellenwood Auto Parts in Cooperstown, Co-owner and operator with his daughter, Ellen
of the Oneonta Dairy Queen for 6 years, where all the granddaughters worked summers.

Terby worked as a carpenter and electrician for Patrick Welsh Contracting, and for several years as well with his son at Craig TerBush Builders.

Until recently he worked part time for Baileys Property Ent. Inc. as an inspector and subcontractor.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty); son, Craig TerBush (Connie); granddaughters, Rebecca Kohn (Dan) and Renae TerBush; daughter, Ellen Schmitt (Peter); granddaughters, Kristen Schmitt Lindner (Ned), Nicole
Burdick (Michael), Jennifer Leksander (Neil); great-granddaughter, Gretchen Leksander; son, David TerBush (Sue); grandson, Tage, granddaughter,
