SCHENEVUS – Shirley R. Comino, 74, passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at her home.
She was born May 11, 1936 in Ballston Spa, the daughter of Raymond and Mildred (Barrett) Clapper.
Shirley grew up and went to school in Oneonta. She married Peter Comino, who died in 1968.
Shirley worked at the former Oneonta Dress Factory for 25 years. She belonged to the Schenevus VFW Post 2752 Auxiliary, where she held the office of president for 8 terms. She was also past president of the Otsedel County Council Auxiliary for 24 years.
Shirley leaves a legacy of baby name blankets she made for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her many friends babies.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Peter (Susan) Comino Sr. of Maryland, Joseph (Paula) Comino of Schenevus, Bruce (Deborah) Eichler of Cathedral City, CA; a daughter, Susan Barnes of Otego; step-son, Gene Comino of Worcester; grandsons, Peter (Darlean) Comino Jr., Christopher (Megan) Comino, Robert and Jeffrey Dixon, Tyler Comino, James (Jessica) Gaske, Mark Wright and family, and Ward (Michelle) Decker; granddaughters, Jessica Barnes, Michelle McAdams, Milissa and family, JoAnne (Michael) Sorokey, and Amanda (Alex) Nigo; a brother, Raymond (Mary) Clapper of Syracuse; a brother-in-law, John Field of Torrington, CT; also several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, two sons, Jeffery and Gregory; a step-daughter, Iva Comino; a sister, Sarah "Sally" Field; and a very, very dear friend, Gerald Allen, who died in 1998.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 22, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Heller Funeral Home, Schenevus.
The funeral service will be Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle chaplain at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, officiating.
Interment will follow at the Schenevus Cemetery.
