ONEONTA- Shirley D. Waring, 92, passed away peacefully December 19, 2018 at the Oxford Veteran's Home.
She was born August 29, 1926 in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of Robert Charles and Veda (Brunn) Dixon.
In 1948 Shirley graduated Buffalo State College with a Bachelor in Science degree in Home Economics. Later that year, she married Robert E. Waring on December 26 th in Buffalo.
In Geneseo, Shirley was very proud in being able to assist her husband Bob for 27 years in their Chevrolet and Oldsmobile dealership. She helped start the nursery school and was a founder of the food pantry. She was an active member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church.
Upon retirement Bob and Shirley relocated to Lake Wales, Florida. When in Florida she continued her participation in AAUW and support for Tri Sigma sorority. She was an active member of the Church of the Good Sheppard.
Shirley enjoyed her newspapers, traveling, music, learning, and spending time with her friends and family. She wanted to be remembered for being a teacher, a good mother, and a loving wife.
She is survived by her husband of almost 70 years, Robert E. Waring, children, R. Andrew Waring (Maureen), David C. Waring, Cynthia A. Waring (Frank Stroman), Patricia L. Waring, and Judith M. Waring; grandchildren, R. Charles (Leigh), Julie (Brett), Elizabeth, Alexandra (Ted), Victoria, Evan, Alyson (Michael); great-grandchildren Amelia, R. George; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers Irwin and Kenneth, and a son-in-law, Peter DiNardo.
A Memorial service will be held 2p.m., January 12, 2019 at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 23 Main St., Geneseo, New York.
