OTEGO – Theodore Jones, Jr., 71, passed away on Friday, June 22, 2007 at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
He was born November 16, 1935 in Sloatsburg, NY, the son of Theodore Sr. and Mary Jane (Fletcher) Jones.
Ted married Theresa Ryerson on February 15, 1959 at St. Joan of Arc Church in Sloatsburg.
He was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict at Panama Canal and obtained the rank of Sergeant.
Ted was employed for Ford Motor Company in Mahwah, NJ. He and his family then moved to Otego and Ted started working at the United States Postal Service in Otego as a Private Contractor HC 87 until his retirement.
He was a member of the Oneonta VFW Post 1206 and the Oneonta Moose Club.
Ted's favorite thing to do was spending time with his family, walking his dog and stopping to talk with his neighbors. He was a gentle and kind, and was good to all people. He enjoyed shopping and visiting at Wal-mart, going to lunch, eating ice cream and pancakes, and painting by numbers. He also loved to watch NASCAR with Kevin and Survivor.
He is survived by his loving family, his wife, Theresa Jones of Otego; his children, Elaine and David Smith of Deposit, Mary and Don Galli of New Jersey and Kevin Jones and Deborah Burleson of Laurens. Pop Pops adored his 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Harold Jones and George Jones; sisters, Minnie Bishop and Betty Baisley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Theodora Vanzyle; a brother, Howard Jones; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clarence and Agnes Conklin.
Calling hours will be held at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home in Oneonta on Monday, June 25, 2007 from Noon to the funeral service time at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Joseph Benintende, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oneonta, officiating.
Interment with military honors will follow at the Sandhill Cemetery in Unadilla.
