OTEGO – Thomas H. Lewis, 72, went to be with our Lord, Sunday, August 11, 2013.
He was born December 20, 1940 in Massillon, Ohio, the only child of Russell and Irene (Sulin) Lewis. He moved to Oneonta when he was 15 years old and graduated from Oneonta High School in 1959. After high school Tom attended SUNY Brockport.
Tom married the love of his life, Delilah Gravelin on June 24, 1961 at the First United Methodist Church in Oneonta.
Tom was honored to serve as an Oneonta City Firefighter. Spending the majority of his life dedicated to helping others. Tom was awarded Fireman of the Year in 1986. Tom retired from the department after twenty years of service in 1993.
Tom and Delilah moved to Hilton Head Island, SC and lived there for 7 years before returning to Otego to be closer to their grandchildren. He was very dedicated to his family and loved spending time with them. Tom was quick with a joke and was the life of the party. He had so many friends whom he loved dearly and they loved him too. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, coaching Pee Wee Football, cooking and was always ready to share a favorite recipe and cocktail.
He is survived by his wife, Delilah Lewis of Otego; children, Russell W. and wife, Debra Lewis of Milford, Randy and wife, Coleen Lewis, of Otego, Renee and husband, Bill Stanley of Otego, Robin and husband, Thomas Liddle of Otego; grandchildren, Christopher Herrmann, Samantha Stanley, Wyatt Liddle, Georgia Liddle, Madison Stanley, and Katie Lewis; brother-in-law, Richard and wife, Kathy Gravelin of Oneonta; a niece, Michelle Grygiel; a nephew, Andrew Gravelin; and many cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2013 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m., Friday, August 16, 2013 at the Elm Park Methodist Church, 401 Chestnut St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Olu Harding officiating.
Interment will be 10:30 a.m, Friday, May 27, 2014 at the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.
