Obituary

Griffin GA - LtCol (ret) Thomas P (TP) Broe, 87, passed away 14 June 2010 at his home in Griffin, GA.


He was born December 20, 1922, in Oneonta, the son of Christopher and Rose Broe.


TP was a graduate of Oneonta High School and attended Siena College in Albany. He also studied at Liege, Belgium, Michigan State University, and Georgia State University earning his doctorate in Education.


A strong patriot, TP first answered his countries call during World War II by enlisting in the Army Air Corps. He flew P47 missions over Europe and was involved in air support for the Battle of the Bulge. During the Korean war TP was again called to fly combat missions in an F-86. Again in the Vietnam War TP served managing a squadron in Nam Kam Panom, Thailand while also flying combat missions.


TP taught Junior ROTC at Jonesboro High School for 17 years and was an avid runner, running the Peachtree Road Race 28 times.


TP is survived by his wife, Delores Broe, whom he married on May 29th 1948, in Detriot Michigan; his children, Maureen Broe, Christopher Broe, Charmaine MacKenzie and her husband, Tom, Mark Broe, Dolores Lewis and her husband, Gary, Thomas Broe and his wife, Lisa, Theresa Walsh and her husband, Bill, Anne Hall and her husband, Kevin, Kevin Broe and his wife, Janel and his sister, Betty Priore and his brother, James Broe, and fifteen grandchildren.


He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Otvos, Gertrude Natoli and his brothers, Joseph Broe and Jerry Broe.


He was a beloved Husband, Father, and Grandpa and will be sorely missed.

The viewing will be from 6-8 pm on Thursday, 17 June 2010 at Tara Gardens Funeral Home in Georgia. A memorial Mass will be at 11 am Friday, 18 June 2010, at St. Phillip Benizi Catholic Church, Jonesboro GA.


A memorial mass will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, 21 June 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Joseph Benintende, as celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmoms.
