Obituary

ONEONTA – Virginia "Moonface" Pitt, 81, died unexpectedly, Friday, November 9, 2012 at Albany Medical Center.


She was born November 6, 1931 in Chester, Mass., the daughter of William and Marion (Harris) Hathaway.


Virginia married Alpheus Seth Jones, Jr. who died in 1959. She then married Willard Pitt who died in 1993.


While living in Chester, Mass. Virginia was an organist for the 1st Congregational Church and the United Methodist Church. When she moved to Worcester, NY, she became active with the Worcester United Methodist Church, as an organist, on the board of trustees, and a volunteer. She was a past member of Pocahontas.


Virginia had several jobs, including a waitress at Howard Johnson's, a CNA at The Meadows and Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, and worked at Cortland Grinding Wheels. She had a love of the arts and crafts, knitting and traveling.


She is survived by her son, Jonathan and wife, Linda Jones of Middlefield, MA; a daughter, Veronica Jones of Oneonta; 3 grandchildren, Helen Marie, Jason and Crystal; 3 great-grandchildren, Olivia, Amber and Connor.


She was predeceased by a son, Curtis Jones and a brother, William Hathaway, Jr.

Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the funeral starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the United Methodist Church, Main St., Worcester, with the Rev. Susan Wenner, pastor and assisted by the Rev. Judith Thistle.


Interment will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester.
