Worcester – Walter 'Butch' Thompson, 86, passed away on September 12, 2025 at Cooperstown Center.
He was born in Cherry Valley on May 1, 1939 to Harold and J. Margaret Thompson.
Butch graduated from Cherry Valley Central School in 1957. He enlisted in the United States Navy in January 1958 until March 1963.
Butch married Marlene 'Mollie' Osborn on November 21, 1959.
He worked in plumbing and heating and owned his own business. He was a member of the Worcester Fire Department, the Cherry Valley American Legion, and Worcester Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mollie; daughter, Stacia Barrett; grandchildren, Gregory (Willow), Kaitlyn (John), Jaidyn (Ryan), and Shayne (Leandra); great-grandchildren, Hendrik, Kynsley, Aubri, Molly, Killian, Alexander, and Suzanne; brother, Jon (Jill) Thompson; sister, Marjorie (Sam) Dubben; sister-in-law, Pam (Osborn) Zerbe (Ron); and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Ronald (Bonnie); brother-in-law, Jon Osborn; aunt, Wanda Welbert.
A shared funeral service for both Butch and his aunt Wanda, who passed away on September 10th, will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, September 16, at the Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main St., Worcester.
The Committal service with military honors will be 1 p.m., Monday, September 29, at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Cook St., Worcester.
