ONEONTA – Wayne R. Heck, Sr., 79, passed away comfortably surrounded by his family on March 3, 2016 at A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta, after a long illness.
He was born June 28, 1936 in Oneonta, the son of the late Charles and Eva (Oliver) Heck.
Wayne married Margo Wayman on November 10, 1958 in Oneonta.
He was a United State Air Force veteran.
Wayne was a life long resident of Oneonta. He worked for 20 years at D&H Railroad as an Engineer, than was a mail carrier for the Oneonta School District.
He was a former member of the Otsego Mountaineer C.B. Club. He enjoyed being outdoors camping and fishing, and especially loved boating.
A special thank you to the staff on Unit 3 at A.O. Fox Nursing Home and to Catskill Area Hospice, for the care given to Wayne.
He is survived by his wife, Margo Heck of Oneonta; children, Wayne Heck Jr. of Mt. Vision and Deborah Janitz (Michael) of Oneonta; grandchildren, Wayne Hack III (Tammy); Joseph Janitz (Lacey), Melissa Duchaime, Nathan Anderson, Aaron Heck and Joshua Anderson; 10 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Charles Heck (Betty) of Rome, Mildred Babcock (Ralph) of Sidney, and Lillian Olson of Bloomville; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Judy Anderson; his grandson, Michael Janitz, brother, Robert Heck and a sister, Josephine Mongillo.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 5 p.m. with the funeral service at 5 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2016 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta. The Major James Smith from the Salvation Army will be officiating.
