Otego – Wayne E. Sargent, 77, passed away, February 18, 2024 at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

He was born July 13, 1946 in Oneonta, the son of Wellington and Esther (White) Sargent.

Wayne was a United States Navy veteran, serving in Vietnam.  He was very proud to have been a rescue swimmer.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl (Welch) Sargent; granddaughter, Abby Kusko and fiancé, Tyler Marzka; step-daughter, Michelle Post and fiancé, Tim Borggreen; brother, Robert Sargent; sisters, Linda Philips and Sue (Raymond) Cower; father-in-law, Jim Welch; brother-in-law, Daniel Welch and Johna Smith; sister-in-law, Cindy Cole.

He was predeceased by his parents; his daughter, Karie Sargent Shields; and brother, Thomas Sargent.

At Wayne's request, there will be no services at this time.
