ONEONTA – Whitney C. Colburn, 77, passed away July 29, 2014 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.


He was born January 8, 1937, the son of Whitney C. Colburn, Sr. and Lesley (Wallace) Colburn.


Whitney was raised on Lookout Mountain in Tennessee. He was a United States Army Veteran.


He received a Master's degree in Philosophy. He loved talking with everyone and touched many with his words. He was a philosopher of life.


Whitney was employed as a Management Supervisor at Marin Management in New York City for many years. He loved his job and more importantly was loved by the people he worked with.


He is survived by his life partner of 36 years, his wife, Geraldine "Geri" (Raiola) Colburn of Oneonta; a step daughter Jennifer, son-in-law Ray Mannion of Oneonta; grandchildren, Alex and Christina; his sister, Lesley Schiller of Georgia; a nephew, Seam and a niece, Laura.


He was predeceased by his parents.


Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m., with the funeral service starting at 4 p.m. on Friday, August 1, 2014 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Judith Thistle, officiating.
