ONEONTA – William "Bill" Ballute, 65, died peacefully on May 21, 2015 due to complications of Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD).

Born on May 22, 1949 in Endwell, NY, he was the son of Verna and William Ballute.

He attended Maine-Endwell High School and studied at SUNY Oneonta and SUNY Delhi, earning a bachelor's degree in economics.

He was an area car salesman for over 30 years. A great storyteller, he loved meeting and talking with people. Bill loved the outdoors and was an avid skier all of his life. His family is proud of his participation in AA for the past 18 years, where he was a faithful friend to many people with shared struggles. In the 1970's he also served in the West Oneonta Volunteer Fire Department.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Sara Ballute; his daughter, Jennifer Ballute and her husband, Jesse Sweet and their young son, Benjamin. He is also survived by his sister, Connie and husband, Gil Kerr; his sister, Laura and husband, Tom Threlkeld; his brother, Don and wife, Elaine Ballute; ex-wife and friend, Janet Ballute; along with several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Calling hours will be 3 to 4 p.m., Sunday, May 24, 2015 with a brief service at 4 p.m. at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta. A reception to follow will be announced at the service.
