William D.
Decker, Sr.
December 9, 1956 – November 23, 2022
Decatur, NY– William D. Decker, Sr., 65, passed away at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown on November 23, 2022 after a brief illness.
He was born December 9, 1956 in Oneonta, NY, the son of Frederick and Theresa (Bailey) Decker.
Bill graduated from Worcester Central school in 1976. He married his high school sweetheart Janet Rickard in 1976 right after graduation. Together they had 3 children, William, Bradley and Amanda.
Bill has worked for a short time at many local businesses including Greenleaf, Astrocom, and The Worcester Market. However, his real passion was in building computers and computer programming. He spent countless hours helping others fulfill their needs and dreams with all the new technology that was emerging at the time. He especially enjoyed helping his son Bill Jr. achieve his dream, by working with him at starting his first business known as Sportsman Adventures in Oneonta, NY. That business still continues to operate today at 15 years strong!
He was a sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and all things that mother nature had to offer. He loved a good game of Chess and Marbles. He absolutely loved spending time with his family during the holidays; including helping with the cooking which was not always his forte, but he loved helping never the less. He had a distinctive laugh that was infectious and warming. He could be stubborn and he definitely did life the way HE wanted to! Beyond all else though; was the deepest love he shared for his grandchildren. He couldn't wait to see them and teach them new things. He even played the part of Santa visiting during Christmas time. He would always go the extra mile to see a smile on their faces.
He is survived by his children, William D. Decker, Jr and wife, Amy of Oneonta, NY, Bradley Decker and wife, Kelly of Springfield Center, NY, and Amanda Decker "Mandy" with husband Shawn Hemmes of East Worcester, NY; his grandchildren, Kyrah, Destiny, Corbin, Shellyann, Xavior, Camden, Airyanna, Skyla and Eli; his siblings, George (Linda) Decker, Ted Decker, Julie (Tom) Dawes, sister-in-law, Cynthia Decker; as well as many nieces and nephews. He also had a special relationship with and is survived by Daryl Hagadorn and Lola Rickard-Adair of Worcester, NY.
He was predeceased by his parents Frederick and Theresa; his brother, David Decker Sr.; his sister, Lorraine Koerner, as well as his brother-in-law, Phil Koerner and sister-in-law, Patty Miller-Decker.
Bill's faith in God was very important to him and he would not want anyone to grieve him, as he is no longer in pain and he rejoices in heaven!
