GRANDVALLEY, PA – William R. Finger, 74, passed away May 20, 2010 at his home.


He was born July 20, 1935.


Bill was a United States Navy veteran, serving for four years.


He was a truck mechanic most of his life. Bill joined the Westford Fire Department in September 1970. He became chief in mid 1982 and resigned from the department in 1985. Bill was also one of the original members of the Westford 1st Responders.


Bill was an active member of the United Methodist Church. He held various positions within the church in the communities were he lived through out his life.


He is survived by his eight children, David (Madeline) Finger of North Carolina, Daniel M. Finger of North Carolina, Donna (Mike) Parslow of Westford, Dale (Lisa) Finger of Rochester, Don (Tracy) Finger of Westford, William R. Finger Jr. (Deb) of Schenevus, Douglas (Sharon) Finger of Milford, Sean (Debbie) Finger of Maryland; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Audrey (Richard) Steenburn of Florida; brothers, John (Ellen) Finger of Saugerties and Wesley (Jill) Finger of Saugerties; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.


He was predeceased by his parents, Douglas and Dorothy Finger; a sister, Lois Kimble of Saugerties; a nephew, Steven Finger of Saugerties and his ex-wife and mother to 6 of his 8 children, Connie Brandt.


A memorial service and gathering for family and friends will be on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the home of Don and Tracy Finger in Westford.
