Farewell, My Love

When a husband dies there's an overwhelming sadness that serves to cloud the mind and paralyzes the body. It's a debilitating feeling that comes with the realization that never again, in this life will you be able to call or see this individual again.

The sadness is deep seated and profound and today I feel sad and lonely. I've lost my husband, my best friend, the love of my life, Bill Gilmer. He was a passionate high-spirited man, a true and caring man.

He was the kind of man you could depend on when you needed help. He was a special man who adored his wife, cherished his brother, Jim and most of all loved riding his Harley Davidson. He loved salmon fishing especially in "Lake Pulaski" and going to the "Property".

Bill was a perfect example of why greatness is not simply how far one can throw the ball or how high one can jump or how fast one can run. Bill Gilmer taught all who knew him that greatness was giving and feeling and sharing and especially making better those things that serve to improve the quality of life in our society. These are reflections of true greatness.

For Bill the pain and suffering is gone. No doubt he has gone to a better place and that we will see one another again someday. But for me, I guess I'm selfish, my loneliness will continue. I can't replace my husband, I won't forget him and I pray that God will bless him because he deserves only the best.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held at the convenience of the family.
