MT. VISION – William "Willy" J. Dobler, 85, passed away Monday, January 6, 2014 after a brief illness at A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.
He was born December 6, 1928 in Brooklyn, the son of William C. and Anna M. (Cotignola) Dobler.
Willy was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.
He married Eileen Theresa McCabe on May 7, 1955 at St. Ignatius Church in Hicksville. She predeceased him on December 18, 2012.
As a young man Willy was a butcher at A & P Markets, until he moved with his family to Mt. Vision in 1964 opening "Dobler's Country Store". He later opened "Willy's Tavern" which he ran for several years and had many good times with his family and friends. Willy enjoyed fishing, loved his antique cars and his chickens.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oneonta and the Laurens American Legion.
He is survived by his children, William E. Dobler, Timothy P. Dobler, Mary E. (Frank) Flatley, and Matthew J. (Teresa) Dobler; grandchildren, Joseph, Andrew and Michael Flatley, Zachary Dobler, Katie and James Dobler; a brother, Vincent (Peg) Dobler and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Cecilia and a brother, Frank Dobler.
Calling hours will be Noon to 1 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2014 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., with the Rev. David Mickiewicz, officiating.
Interment will be at a later date in the Mt. Vision Cemetery.
