Worcester - William "Pop" McCabe, 89, of Worcester, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2006 at his residence after a long battle with cancer.
He was born on November 25, 1916 in Worcester, the son of Edward J. and Mary (Murphy) McCabe.
William married Barbara E. Gallup on April 28, 1945 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta.
He was the Vice President of Grolier Publishing Co. in New York City.
After working in Manhattan for 45 years, William returned to Worcester after retiring in 1982.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and woodworker and loved riding his tractor.
William was a member of the Worcenevus Club of Stratford, NY for 59 years, the Worcester Historical Society, AOPA and the NRA.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Barbara McCabe of Worcester; 2 daughters, Mary and her husband, Jeff Teller of Worcester and Marlene and her husband, Doug Sluiter of Andes, NY; a grandson, Matt and his wife, Dana Sluiter of Bovina, NY; 2 great grandchildren, Ryan and Sara Sluiter both of Bovina, NY and his brother Edward J. McCabe Jr. of Delray Beach, Fla.
He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Frederick McCabe of Kansas City, KS and Thomas J. McCabe of Worcester, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Main Street, Worcester with the Rev. Edward J. Golding as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, November 21, 2006 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 155 Main St., Worcester.
